I recently used PhoneGap build to turn a JQuery Mobile application into a native app for both iOS and Android. My first impression seems to be a little disappointed in the responsiveness of the application compared to it’s web counterpart.
One of the things that may through off first time PhoneGap build users is their submission process. The currently only allow you to submit one icon for the iOS build while you need two. One for retina and one for non-retina. 57×57 and 72×72 respectively.
To solve that issue it is necessary to build a config.xml file. Here is an example:
<widget xmlns = "http://www.w3.org/ns/widgets"
xmlns:gap = "http://phonegap.com/ns/1.0"
id = "com.companyname.someappname"
version = "1.0">
<name>Some App Name</name>
<description>
Some App Name description
</description>
<author href="http://www.someapp.com"
email="[email protected]">
Some App Name Company
</author>
<icon src="icons/icon-iphone-72.png" width="72" height="72" />
<icon src="icons/icon-iphone-57.png" width="57" height="57" />
<gap:splash src="splashes/splash.png" />
</widget>
Simply archive this xml file along with your JQM files and upload it to PhoneGap build.
Note: If you are having troubles uploading your application to the app store use an older version of Apple’s application loader.
